At Spencer House we are as busy as ever. Our location is 5596 Morris Street, Halifax, B3J 1C2. We serve a hot, home cooked lunch daily at noon, Monday - Friday. The price is presently only $ 3.00, and reservations are not necessary. We appeal to older adults aged fifty- five plus, and encourage you to drop in.
Spencer House Seniors' Activity Drop In Centre became a Public Access Terminal for seniors, for the Chubecto Community Net last spring. This means that if you are aged fifty-five plus you are welcome to drop in and use our donated computer to surf the net. We have a log book, so you can phone in and reserve the computer ahead of time. There is no fee to drop in and use the computer.
We are pleased to offer ongoing internet workshops, and have dedicated volunteers who not only facilitate the workshops, but are available to answer your questions weekly on Wednesdays, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Beginner internet workshops are scheduled monthly on the third Wednesday at 1:00pm. Please register for the workshops in advance. There is no fee for the workshops. Please call 421-6131 or e-mail me.
Are you concerned about your blood pressure, blood sugar level, or your cholesterol level? Or are you just curious about what your levels are? If so please feel free to join us at Spencer House for our "Wellness Clinic," Thursday, November 9th, 10:00am - Noon. At this time we will have nurses available who will take your blood pressure, and check your bloodsugar and cholesterol level. We will also have displays on nutrition, osteoporosis, medications, and life line. All are welcome to drop in. The "Wellness Clinic" is sponsored by Spencer House, The VON, Shoppers Drug Mart, Northwoodcare, and TLC Nursing Services. Please join us!
Wednesday, November 15, 5:00pm you are welcome to drop in for our pot luck supper, please bring a hot or cold dish, and if you enjoy children you might want to check out our Grandfriends Program. Grandfriends take place the third monday of each month. This month meet at Saint Mary's Elementary School at 1:00pm; St. Mary's is right beside Spencer House. Our Grandfriends programs is into it's eleventh year and gives seniors and a one grade class from St. Mary's a chance to socialize and interact with other generations.
